InfantSEE™ is a unique
new public health program designed to ensure that optometric eye and
vision care becomes and integral part of infant
wellness care in order to improve a child’s quality of life. The
goal of InfantSEETM is to detect eye health problems early in infants
in order to avoid developmental delays or far more serious health problems,
as well as to treat any existing problems.
Drs. Quinn, Quinn and Associates have agreed to participate in the InfantSEE™ program. Through this program we will provide comprehensive eye assessments
for babies, ages 6 to 12 months, at no charge, and with no billing, regardless
of ability to pay or insurance coverage.
The first year of life is one of the most critical stages of human development.
Because of this, the InfantSEE™ program follows the American Optometric
Association (AOA) Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG) for Pediatric Eye
and Vision Examination and recommends that an infant receives the first
comprehensive eye assessment before twelve months of age. Many doctors
suggest that the best age to assess an infant is between six and nine
months.
An InfantSEE™ eye assessment should become a part of the infant
wellness routine. Following the first assessment, a child's eyes should
be checked at intervals recommended by the InfantSEE™ optometrist.
According to the AOA CPG, repeat complete examinations for asymptomatic
children should occur at age three and again upon entering first grade.
Of the three to four million babies born every year in the U.S., 1 in
20,000 has retinoblastoma, 1 in 25 will develop strabismus, and 1 in
30 will develop amblyopia. Many times these conditions are not detected
in time for proper management or treatment by optometrists or ophthalmologists
who specialize in the care of infants and children.
