We are proud to provide advanced expertise in contact lens and laser correction. State-of-the-art technology and our doctors' years of experience join together to make sure the correct treatment is selected for your unique ocular condition. Our office often serves as a site for contact lens related research studies. The following list provides information on the available options.

Disposable (Frequent Replacement) Soft Lenses

A dirty contact lens isn’t comfortable, is harder to see through and is a threat to eye safety. This is particularly a problem with soft lenses, which coat more quickly than GP lenses. Enter the disposable soft lens! By putting a fresh lens in at frequent intervals, the lenses feel better, provide better vision and are safer to wear. Virtually all soft lenses fit today are designed to be replaced a some frequent interval, be it monthly, every two weeks or every day!

One Day (Single Use) Soft Lenses

One day lenses are the ultimate in eye health and convenience. Putting a fresh, clean lens on the eye reduces risk of infection and eye irritation. Since no solutions are needed, there’s no need to worry about potential sensitivities to chemicals in care products. One day lenses have even received FDA approval as treatment for ocular allergies!

Late breaking news: One day lenses are now available for those with mild to moderate degrees of astigmatism and those needing bifocal correction.

The convenience of care-free wear combined with free express delivery of lenses to your office or home makes this form of contact lens correction not only the safest, it’s the easiest.
Wear them a day, then throw them away!

Ideal Candidates for the one day lens include those who:

  • Wear contact lenses on an occasional basis
  • Find contact lens care systems a hassle
  • Have a fast-paced, on-the-go lifestyle
  • Experience dryness or discomfort with other lenses
  • Have a sensitivity to contact lens solutions
  • Have a history of lens coating
  • Work in a dirty environment
  • Want the ultimate in convenience!

Continuous Wear (30 Day) Lenses
Tired of your glasses always fogging up and getting in the way? Afraid of the cost and safety of laser vision correction? Sick and tired of fooling with your contact lenses every day? Continuous wear contact lenses to the rescue!

Highly oxygen permeable contact lens materials in both soft and GP designs are now available and are safe to wear, with proper fitting and monitoring, for up to 30 nights of continuous wear. The front surface of the eye (the cornea) needs oxygen from the atmosphere to stay healthy. These lenses allow six times more oxygen to pass through them compared to other lenses on the market. That’s a huge leap forward!

Skill in fitting and proper follow-up are essential to safe and successful continuous wear. We were fortunate to serve as FDA investigators for these lenses prior to their approval, so we’ve had years of experience in fitting these lenses successfully.

Convenience and safety...what else can you ask for? Call us at 594-2271 or e-mail us at appointments@athenseyecare.com to schedule an appointment to see if you are an appropriate candidate.

Colored Contact Lenses

Tinted contact lenses are now available in a large variety of colors. Want to change your look? Want to vary your eye color with your mood or the outfit you’re wearing that day? Do you want a lens that’s easier to see while handling? If you answered yes to any of these questions, colored lenses may be for you. Go to www.acuvue.com and click on “Take the Test” to find out what lens colors might be best for you. Then tell us when you schedule your appointment for an evaluation!

Multifocal Contact Lenses
People that need bifocal correction can wear contact lenses too! Bifocal, or more precisely, multifocal, lenses are available in both soft and GP designs.

If you’ve worn contact lenses before and don’t like the idea of wearing reading glasses over your contact lenses, multifocal contact lenses may be for you. If you’ve never worn contact lenses, but don’t like the idea of a bifocal in your glasses, multifocal contact lenses may be for you as well!

Toric Lenses
Nearly half the population has some degree of astigmatism. Uncorrected astigmatism can lead to blurred vision, headaches and eyestrain. Toric lenses to the rescue! Toric lenses are specially designed lenses to correct astigmatism.

Dirty lenses create most of the complications seen with contact lens wear. The good news is most prescriptions are available in toric soft lenses that are designed to be replaced every two weeks or every month. Some toric prescriptions are even available in the One Day (Single Use) design!

See better by correcting your astigmatism with a toric soft lens or a GP lens!

GP lenses
GP lenses, also known as gas permeable or oxygen permeable lenses, are recognized in the eye care field as the type of contact lens that provides the best vision. It does so by automatically correcting most astigmatism, as well as nearsightedness and farsightedness, and by providing excellent optics.

GP lenses offer distinct health benefits as well in that they provide an average of two to three times more oxygen to the eye (the cornea) as compared to most soft lenses. The front of the eye (the cornea) requires oxygen from the atmosphere in order to stay healthy. Additionally, the smaller size of GP lenses allows for better tear exchange beneath the lens, helping bath the eye with fresh tears following each blink.

GP lenses stay cleaner and are more durable than soft lenses, providing a longer lasting (most GP lenses need replaced every 12 to 18 months) and therefore often more economical vision correction option.

GP lenses offer the additional advantage of often slowing down the progression of nearsightedness in children who prescription is changing rapidly.

Ideal candidates for GP lenses include those who:

  • Have critical vision needs
  • Have astigmatism
  • Children and teenagers advancing in nearsightedness
  • Need bifocals
  • Have an irregular cornea from injury, keratoconus, surgery
  • Had poor vision or health with soft lens wear

Macrolens
The Macrolens is a unique GP lens. It is much larger than a standard GP lens, which helps the lens position properly to provide optimal vision and comfort. The Macrolens is commonly used to conditions that cause distortion in the cornea, such as keratoconus.
